Technology Enhanced Teaching Strategy

1. Background

UJ is currently in the drive to maximize the use of hand-held devices to aid in learning, teaching and assessments (LTA). This has led to the requirement (in 2014) that all first year students and lecturers must have hand-held devices and this will be escalated to the second year level in 2015. In addition, the advances in technology allows the educator to develop the materials in a manner that enhances LTA. Recently there has been newer approaches (e.g. flipped classroom) some (if not most) will not be successful unless the technological platforms are used effectively. This TETS is therefore designed to achieve the above within the MIRS department.

2. The Aims of this Plan

To align the department with the UJ strategic drive of enhancing the use of hand held devices.
To maximise the usage of the available technology that enhances LTA.
To assist the educators in developing their own LTA strategies.
