Conclusion

My personal teaching philosophy has a great influence in how I approach my TLA strategy. At the core of what I do, I desire to see students succeeding and grow beyond the classroom. I am all for lifelong learning and my strategy sets me up for an opportunity to create a lasting impact on the students.

In addition, my heart for students has afforded me to mentor a student who visited our department as an exchange student from Kenya. I was the lecturer responsible to organise everything pertaining to his visit to the extent of hosting him for dinner with my family (appendix 18 for a report on this student’s visit).

As a recipient of the UJ Vice Chancellor’s Teacher Excellence Award, I am continuing to deepen my philosophy. I have attended some workshops within UJ, for example the Deepening Student Engagement workshop (Appendix 19).

I will also be attending the Association of Medical Educators in Europe conference in Italy in August 2014 for the sole purpose of taking advantage of the student engagement conference workshops and presentations on the subject of student engagement.
